Tiki Barber: New York Giants Running Back

A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Tiki Barber was born on April 7, 1975 and currently plays as running back for the New York Giants after being drafted in the 2nd round of the 1997 NFL Draft. His identical twin, Ronde Barber, is the cornerback for the NFLs Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After attending the University of Virginia on an academic scholarship, Barber quickly set his sites on a career in professional football. During the 2000 NFL season, Tiki Barber was labeled one-half of the Thunder and Lightning duo, shared with Ron Dayne, and was instrumental in pushing the Giants toward their appearance at Super Bowl XXXV. During the four years that would follow, Tiki Barber became the most important part of the Giants offensive. During the 2004 season, Tiki Barber became the NFLs top yardage gainer from the scrimmage line.

During the 2005 season, Tiki Barber continued his successful streak as he broke the Giants single-game rushing record as he rushed for 220 yards in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs. At the conclusion of the 2005 season, Barber made comments surrounding the Giants that caused professional differences between the head coach and himself. After later apologizing for his comments and further explaining their intended meaning, it is believed that those differences have since been resolved and things will return to normal for the upcoming 2006 NFL season.

As the new season approaches, fans and teammates are anxiously anticipating Barbers continued success on the field. With career highlights that include a Pro Bowl appearance in 2004 and 2005, leading the NFL in total yards from scrimmage in 2004 and 2005 and being the first player in NFL history to rush 1,800 yards and 500 receiving yards in a single season, Tiki Barber is sure to continue striving for new career highlights and records. In addition to his success on the football field, Tiki Barber has also found fame in other ventures. Having served as a sports analyst for WCBS-TV in New York and guest anchoring WNYWs Good Day New York, Barber is widely becoming recognized off of the field. He, together with his brother Ronde, hosts a Sirius Satellite Radio weekly show known as Barbershop.
