Mountain Cycling in New Mexico

On this stage of our journey we start out on the top of the New Mexico Mountains at an elevation of 6679 in Dulce and we head down into Bloomfield, Farmington and Shiprock. After ship rock we will detour two miles to Four Corners, a popular Tourist Trap where the American Indians make some cash, maybe we will take a rest for 30 minutes and walk out these muscle cramps.

But that is then and this is now and right now we must psyche ourselves up for this leg of our trek across America. Do we have what it takes is the question of the day? And today we will find out how tough we really are. Because this is where the bike tires meet the pavement and reality is all you got.

Sixty miles to Broomfield we made it and it was not as bad as we thought it might be, but we are not without massive fatigue and yet we press on and we ponder the statement; why to people climb mountains; Because they are there! We shout, indeed because they are there and we did it. Fifteen miles into Farmington, heck we are almost to Four Corners, think how far we have come?

Yes, but we still have the California Mountains to deal with in the next week and a billion years of plate tectonics has put one more difficult challenge in front of us; well that and those deserts we have to cross, hope its not too hot, but either way we are going and nothing will stop us now.
