Cana/Kana of Galilee - First Water to Wine and Now Children to Dust

Jeus is said to have changed common water into very good wine at a marriage supper in Cana of Galilee. It is the Cana/Kana were recently an Israeli killed over fifty rather innocent people, including 32 totally innocent children. It seems that the place were water was turned into wine, the wine has now been turned into blood. Notice the account.

John 2
Jesus Changes Water to Wine
1On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there,

2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine."

4"Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come."

5 His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."

6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[a]

7 Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim.

8 Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet."

They did so,

9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside

10 and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."

11This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.

It is interesting that this account of turning water into wine at Cana is said to have been done at the beginning of Jesus ministry in John, and was noted as the FIRST miracle. However, all three other gospels do not contain the account and one would think that it being the first, it would be noted. It is not, so for Matthew, Mark and Luke, it was either unknown or unnecessary.

It is also an account where Jesus has been noted to have spoken quite harshly to Mary when she kindly asked him to do something about the wine running out for this wedding. So much for honor thy father and mother. Strange that Mary should feel so responsible for the amount of wine, and yes it was REAL WINE and not grapejuice, available to the guests. She seems to be able to tell the servants just what needs to be done and that she expects to be listened to. It's almost as if she was responsible to put on a good wedding and it was the wedding of her son, Jesus. It would be strange that as a mere guest, she would take it upon herself to supply more wine by asking Jesus to do something.

Well do something he did and what he did was no different than what Dionysus/Baccus, the Greek God of wine did. "This story is really the Christian counterpart to the pagan legends of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, who at his annual festival in his temple of Elis, filled three empty kettles with wine, no water needed. And on the Fifth of January, wine instead of water gushed from his temple at Andros. If we believe Jesus miracle, why should we not believe Dionysus's." (The Jesus Conspiracy, Archarya).

Interesting that January 5th was the day that Dionysus, Greek savior, announced his manifestation as a God by turning water in to wine. January 6th is celebrated by the Catholic Church as the Epiphany, the 12th day after Christmas and the time when .."The twelve days of Christmas end with the Feast of Epiphany also called "The Adoration of the Magi" or "The Manifestation of God." Jesus is declared "God" as well by this turning of Water into wine. Coincidence? I think not.

Astrotheologically it is all very interesting. Here we have Jesus born on December 25th, same as most other pagan god men since on December 25th, after languishing for three days in the "grave" of neither moving further south or north, the SUN is born of a Virgin, Virgo that constellation of which just happens to occupy the noon position on Christmas. She is "MOST HIGH" when she brings for the SUN, just as Mary is Most Blessed when she brings for the Son, Jesus.

Then we have 12, always twelve days left until the SUN moves into Aquarius, the water bearer, sign of John the Baptist in January and the ministry of Jesus can begin "at about 30" which is the number of degrees the SUN/SON moves to get into the next sign of the zodiac. The reason we know little of Jesus literal first 30 years is because the "and Jesus was about 30 when he (the Sun) began his ministry is astrotheological in nature, not literal. And Jesus first act was to visit John the Baptist to be baptised (Aquarius). It was the SUN/SON's first act to start his ministry.

Also, turning water to wine was was not so literal as symbolic. Turning water to wine was symbolic of turning non believers, water, into believers in John's community, wine. The literal sun could turn water into wine by growing the grapes vines planted in the earth, rained upon in due season, which in turn produced grapes and wine. So all SUNS/SONS of God could do the same as a symbol of a beginning ministry and manifestation of a God. It is an old story, based on the passing of the literal sun through the twelve signs of the zodiac in one year, which was according to the synopitic gospels the length of Jesus ministry, but in John it was three years or cycles. Perhaps the 12 days of Xmas ending with the Epiphany is a statement that the obscure sun will now travel through the next 12 months, the next 12 signs of the Zodiac and manifest himself to the world. Actually that is what does happen every year from January to December. And so the changing of water into wine at Cana was an inauguration and introduction of sorts of the god/man to the public.

Back to reality. This week, in the place where godmen turn the common into the exquisite, Cana/Kana has become a place where blood now flows after a horrific attack killing 32 children. The exquisite have been turned into dust. Children seem to be expendable on both sides if it serves the cause. The Bible makes a point that the life is in the blood. Wine is a symbol of blood as used in many sacred ceremonies worldwide. So...a lot of wine has been spilled in Cana/Kana this past week. Too bad we can't turn these children back into living human beings again instead of spilled blood. Maybe someone needs to turn the wine back into water and start over. At least stop turning children in to dust in Kana of Galilee.

He has pastored in Chicago, Ill; Findlay/Toldedo/Mansfield, Oh; London/Somerset/Middlesboro, KY; Binghamton/Corning, NY and Greenville, SC where his career ended due to massive doctrinal and administrative changes in the California based sect. Having experienced this reckless shift in how a Church chose to change itself, Dennis began to bring to the surface all the theological questions and biblical difficulties that had accumulated over the years of Pastoring. The results are found in his articles and ongoing questions about the part religion plays in our lives and the pious ignorance most sincere Christians and Pastors put up with in their own thinking. When it's all said and done, sanctified ignorance is still ignorance and it often takes a toll on individuals and congregations.

Dennis currently has a therapeutic massage practice in a Chiropractic setting and is available to anyone or group that might wish to address the falacies of Fundamentalism, congregational abuse by leadership and the negative effect it has on the human spirit.
