At first glance, the most obvious benefit from owning a laptop computer, as opposed to a desktop computer, is that a laptop is smaller and portable. Of course, if you have a desktop computer you will naturally be tied to your desk when ever you have to do some work on your computer. Laptops make it possible for people to take their work with them on the road. When you go through any airport terminal you will see business people, as well as your average person, happily typing away on their portable laptop computer. This was unthinkable just twenty years ago. I remember seeing "portable" computers somewhere around 1983 which were as large as your desktop computers today. Having portable computability has major advantages for many types of individuals including college students. College students may now sit in class and take copious amounts of notes and study them at their leisure back at the dorm. You can now get laptop computers with as much firepower as the first computers had that took up a whole room. I believe that a typical laptop today also has more computing capabilities than the first space shuttle on board computers. So, give yourself some portability and go get yourself a laptop computer. |
