First of all, for true success, you want to build it around a subject that you enjoy. This may seem obvious to you, but many people get caught in the trap of basing their site on "internet marketing" because of all the gurus out there preaching in that area.

Why in the world would you want to spend the next few months writing about something you have no experience in and will, most likely, find you can't stand?

Doesn't it make sense to do what you love to do? Absolutely.

Take myself, for example. I love football, so I put up a site about football. You want to be in a smaller niche anyway so you have a chance to compete in the search engines.

Build A Website Online Tip #2 - Provide Quality Content

The major search engines like Google want quality content for their human searchers. They don't want their users to click off the search page and find a site with a bunch of links and ads.

They want people to land on a website that offers tons of free information on the topic that was searched.

This is another reason for you to love your chosen niche subject.

Build A Website Online Tip #3 - Avoid Improper Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Don't get into trying to "trick" the search engines with things like keyword stuffing. You need to have quality software that tells you exactly when each page is optimized properly or you'll never rank well.

If you're not sure what SEO is all about, you'll need to get some education on it.

Build A Website Online Tip #4 - Quality Inbound Links

You'll need to, over time, get many inbound links to your website coming from other quality websites in your niche as you build a website online.

The key words here are "in your niche". Google ranks inbound links from other websites in your niche subject much higher than links from non-related niches. That makes sense, as they want their users to find quality information on the topic being searched.

Avoid all the old link farms and the like. Build quality links over time from quality sites. Yes, it's a process but well worth the effort. You don't want Google penalizing your site because you went for the easy way out.

Build A Website Online Tip #5 - Get Onto the First Page of the Search Engines

The best traffic is targeted traffic. Actually, I mean free, targeted traffic. As you build a website online, you need to do all you can to get many of your pages on the first couple of search engine result pages. Preferably, the first page.

Otherwise, no one will find your site. If they can't find you, you'll have no traffic. No traffic means no income.

Own your niche with tons of quality content, work on proper SEO techniques and gather many quality incoming links, and you'll be well on your way to working from home as you build a website online.

The main thing, though, is to learn the art of getting on the first page of Googles search results page. Do that, and instead of being on your way to working from home, you will be working from home.
